Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about postcode eligibility and specified work
Eligible postcodes include most regional and rural areas of Australia. Generally, areas outside Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane CBD, Perth, and Adelaide metropolitan areas qualify. The specific eligibility depends on both the postcode AND the type of work. Use our validator to check specific postcodes.
Visa 417 (Working Holiday) is for passport holders from 19 countries including UK, Ireland, Canada, Germany, France, and Asian nations like Japan, Korea, Taiwan. Visa 462 (Work and Holiday) is for 30+ countries including USA, Argentina, Chile, and more. Both require 88 days for 2nd visa and 179 days for 3rd visa, but eligible work categories may differ.
Tourism and hospitality work ONLY counts in specific remote areas (postcodes in Northern Australia and designated remote regions). It does NOT count in most regional areas. Always verify the specific postcode is eligible for hospitality work before accepting a job.
Keep detailed records including: payslips showing employer address and ABN, bank statements, employment contracts, tax records (PAYG summaries), and photos of your workplace. The postcode on your payslips must match an eligible regional area.
Yes, you can combine multiple jobs in different eligible areas. Each job must be specified work in an eligible postcode. Keep separate documentation for each employer. Days are calculated as calendar days employed, not hours worked.
The postcode where you actually perform the work matters, not where the company is registered. If your payslip shows a head office in Sydney but you work on a farm in regional NSW, the farm's postcode determines eligibility.
Yes, if you're employed continuously. The 88 days count calendar days, not just working days. If you're employed Monday-Friday but technically still employed on weekends, those days count. However, gaps between jobs don't count.
Regional areas are outside major cities but have reasonable access to services. Remote and very remote areas have limited services. All specified work in both area types counts toward your visa, but some work categories (like hospitality) only count in remote areas.
You can complete specified work during your first visa and apply for the second visa before it expires, or after leaving Australia. You can also apply while in Australia if you've completed the required days during your current visa.
Work in ineligible postcodes (major metropolitan areas) does NOT count toward your 88 days. There's no penalty, but you cannot use those days for visa extension. Always verify postcode eligibility before starting work if visa extension is your goal.
